2020’s Best Books…In My Opinion

This year, I set a goal of reading two books a month, or 24 total books for the year and I did it! I was really proud of myself because none of them were re-reads and they were all different types of genres. One plus side of my six month furlough was that I had loads of time to physically sit down and read each book with no rush or interruption.

I have always loved reading so this was a wonderful self-care task for me. While I couldn’t go to Paris as planned, I visited it through the words of many authors. When my relationship was going smoothly, I lived the terror of infidelity and murder through some seriously terrifying books. And, of course, I dabbled in a bit of self-help.

The books below were my favorite but if you want to see everything I read, you can check it out on my Goodreads list

The Bergdorf Goodman Cookbook: I love going to New York City and going into Bergdorfs! The experience alone is incredible, but this cookbook really brings the experience to your home, which I loved during a pandemic! Grandma Hilda’s Golden Crisp Chocolate Chip Cookies are everything and more!

Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies: And Other Rituals to Fix Your Life, from Someone Who’s Been There: This is one of the best books that I’ve ever read. Tara Schuster literally kills it with her genius and vulnerability. I laughed, cried and fell in love with this literary masterpiece and cannot recommend it enough.

French Love Poems: This collection of poetry is short and sweet, while being very romantic in a very French way…no surprise there. The best part? It’s in French AND English!

Girls Like Us: Cristina Alger had me turning every page! Each element of surprise was truly unforeseen! I read a ton of thrillers, but this one had me in awe throughout the entire novel.

No Baggage: A Minimalist Tale of Love and Wandering: This book is everything I’ve ever wanted for my own relationship. There’s a lot of beauty in the author’s journey and sharing her hopes and doubts with the reader in this beautiful non-fiction work. It’s beautiful, inspirational and a breath of fresh air.

The Shining: First things first…I love Stephen King. I couldn’t put this hefty thriller down and, at times, was terrified by the words. If you love suspense, psychological thrillers or incredible writing, this is the book for you.

The Silent Patient: I truly didn’t have anything negative to say about this book and finished it in record time for myself. It kept me on the edge of my couch throughout each chapter and had my jaw on the floor by the end of it.

Twice in a Blue Moon: I’m not usually one for romance stories, but this novel gave me all of the giddy feelings and I would find myself smiling as I turned the pages. It’s truly a light and beautiful literary work and I can’t wait to reread it again.

The Wives: The plot of this psychological thriller continuously twists to the point you feel like you’ve missed something! It’s absolutely incredible and the perfect way to get your heart pumping and mind racing.

I’m already starting my 2021 Reading Challenge, with Man of the Year and have three more lined up (shoutout to Christmas presents!!) so I can’t wait to see what this year brings!
